A man in Karnataka’s Chitradurga lost Rs 1.5 crore in an online betting case, after which his wife died of suicide.

The incident came to light after the father of the 24-year-old woman approached the police and alleged his daughter was under pressure from loan lenders, who often came knocking on their doors asking for their money.

The two got married in 2020, the complainant told the police, adding, that nearly a year later, his daughter, Ranjitha, got to know her husband, Darshan, was into cricket betting.

The lenders used to visit their house frequently, asking for money, thus leading to altercations, he alleged.

Ranjitha was mentally harassed, driving her to take the extreme step, read the complaint copy.

According to the details, Darshan Babu was an assistant engineer by profession and worked for the irrigation department.

Darshan had procured an amount of Rs 84 lakh from more than 12 lenders. However, he lost everything in cricket betting.

He even gave blank cheques as part of the betting, it was revealed.

Meanwhile, the police registered a complaint under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Three lenders in the case were arrested.
