The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recorded the statement of Suhaan Mukherji, founding partner of PLR Chambers, in connection with a case involving violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Mukherji was reportedly questioned due to his association with suspended Lok Sabha MP, Mahua Moitra, who is under investigation by the agency in the case.

WHO IS SUHAAN MUKHERJI?

Suhaan Mukherji has held advisory roles for the government and has served as an expert witness for parliamentary standing committees. Additionally, he has acted as a lawyer for the West Bengal government in various high-profile cases.

The link between Mukherji and Moitra came to light indirectly in May 2023 when a complaint was filed against the suspended TMC leader with the Election Commission by Shravan Kumar Yadav.

The complaint alleged Moitra’s failure to disclose her shares in a financial advisory company in her 2019 election affidavit.

Allegedly, there were discrepancies between Moitra’s declaration and the company’s annual reports from 2010 to 2022.

Reportedly, Moitra served as a director of the same company from January 2010 to March 2016, while Mukherji had been listed as a director since July 14, 2009, alongside his father.
