More than 230K in the dark due to storms

DETROIT – Severe weather is moving through Southeast Michigan on Monday afternoon, with some scattered power outages being reported in the area. 

As of 9:30 p.m. on Monday, more than 230,000 were without power in Southeast Michigan 

according to DTE Energy. That’s nearly 11% of the entire service area without power. 

More than 160,000 Consumers Energy customers were without power in West and Mid-Michigan. 

Safety tips during a storm

Stay at least 20 feet away from downed power lines  

Be extremely cautious near metal fences

Never cross yellow barrier tape. 

Never drive across downed power lines. 

A live power line may spark and whip around as it looks for a ground.  

Cable or telephone lines can be energized if they come in contact with electrical lines.
